Paper Heroes were formed in London early in 2008 when singer, Matt Weedon, sent his song, Jenny Jones, into a SkinsLife competition and it was played on episode 9 of Channel 4’sSkins in April. Skins are making Jenny Jones the first release on their new record label.

Ukrainian RL v Pioneers, 13th July 2008

The touring GB Student RL Chairman’s XIII ‘Pioneers’ had a gripping match against Ukranian RL, with the visitor’s winning 34-18 in Kharkiv in 37 degrees centigrade heat. It was the toughest match the Pioneers have faced against a developing nation.

The Pioneers led 16-8 at the break, their tries coming from Joe Stearman (Hull University), Ollie Bloom, who also kicked four goals (Hartpury College, Gloucester), Graham Simpson-Adkins (Univ Central Lancs), Paul Young (Napier University), James Wallace (Greenhead College), Dan McRitchie (Lancaster University) and Max Bracken (Bangor University). Andrew Parks (Aberystwyth University) was named “Man of the Match”.

GB Student Pioneers in Ukraine

The GB Student Rugby League Chairman’s X111 are currently in the Ukraine. Over the last three years. the “Pioneers” have visited Estonia, Czech Republic and Latvia giving each nation their firts ever experiences of rugby league. The squad is made up of Equal representation from the Four Nations. In 2008 they will visit Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine and will play a Test Match against the national team on Sunday 13th July. They will also play a match against Latvia in Riga. By providing competative opposition the GB Students will help both Ukraine and Latvia as they prepare alongside Estonia to take part in their first Tri-Nations European Bowl later this summer.

Tiger Shark Great Britain Pioneer

Andrew Parks, Captain and Coach of the Tiger Sharks has been selected to play in the Great Britain Student Rugby League inaugural tour to Ukraine and Latvia in July 2008, representing Scotland. Acting as Ambassadors of the game, they will promote the sport of Rugby League in Eastern Europe and play the National Teams. Andrew has just completed his degree in Politics at Aberystwyth University.

The Tiger Sharks in Training

The Tiger Sharks are taking their training seriously, spending part of their Easter Holidays at a Training Camp in France where they will be put through their paces by one of the best coaches in the business. They are really looking forward to their Sevens Tournament which takes place later this year and have already taken part in some warm-up matches in preparation for the big event.

Three fun-packed days at the Devon County Showground’s annual event presenting 280 exhibitors under one roof. The event features lots of free tastings, a free Santa’s grotto, street-type entertainment, birds of prey demonstrations by falconer Jonathan Marshall, and book signings by local wildlife television celebrity, Johnny Kingdom. Dickie Dirts are delighted to learn that the new sensational boyband Teatro will be appearing on the 79th Royal Variety Performance in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The performance will be held in Liverpool at the Empire Theatre on December 3rd. Teatro will be on the same bill as Bon Jovi, Dame Kiri te Kanawa, James Blunt and many more. Their debut album of show tunes (released on 26th November) will contain songs such as Maria from West Side Story; Don’t Cry For Me Argentina from Evita; I Dream a Dream from Les Miserables; and Luck Be A Lady Tonight from Guys and Dolls.

We thought you would like to see what the front of the shirt looks like, so here it is! The guys came up with the whole concept for the strip, right down to the logo and got the whole thing off the ground. It looks fantastic and is a huge achievement. They train hard and are committed to the game. Let’s hope they have a great season. They deserve to do well.
