Childrens Hospice South West have expertly provided care for children with very complex health care needs over the last twelve years by successfully running two children’s hospices. They have just revealed plans to provide a children’s hospice service to support life limited children and their families in Cornwall and Plymouth. The Children’s Hospice South West in Plymouth and Cornwall Appeal will be formally launched in the first week of September 2007. The appeal will be for £5m pounds which will cover the cost of the building and one year’s running costs. The Appeal Fund already stands at £0.5m pounds. The new Hospice will provide special care to an area stretching from the far west of Cornwall to the outskirts of Plymouth. Eddie Farwell started Children’s Hospice South West with his late wife (who died from cancer in 2004) is the parent of two life limited children who sadly died in 1991 and 1998. He feels that there is now a fantastic opportunity to design a service more exactly tailored to the needs of the county and that in particular the needs of older teenagers would need to be taken into account.
